The Backyard
The abundance of on river access makes the Lodge on the Roaring Fork an ideal place for anglers to stay. Looking out over the confluence of the Roaring Fork and Crystal Rivers, our water offers sections of stealth slick water fishing, riffle with pockets, and our favorite “confluence hole”. Unfortunately we can not offer any pond fishing on site. We do have over a mile of fishing on two different rivers within walking distance from the back porch, via the Rio Grande Trail.
The Carbondale boat ramp is located ¼ mile upstream, making float trips easy, with little drive time. Many of our float trips begin or finish right from our own riverfront picnic area.
Really Close
CRYSTAL RIVER fishing is never crowded and always beautiful. The lower river through River Valley Ranch and the narrow upper valley offers great fishing access from Highway 133, just minutes from the Lodge.
The FRYING PAN RIVER has great daytime opportunities for dry fly action nearly year round. The tail water has given many of us memorable fishing days, so be ready to fish with little crowding. Our guides are permitted to fish from miles 1 through 6 until the start of the national forest. The lower section sees much less pressure and can be very productive.
*Multi-day packages may include one day of guided fishing on the Upper Frying Pan with a guide from Taylor Creek Fly Shop, a short 15 to 20 minute drive.
The mighty COLORADO RIVER is a float fish favorite of Capt. Matt and can be waded in many places around Glenwood Springs and South Canyon. If it’s running clear, chances are pretty good your fishing vacation will include a day hunting for the big one the “big muddy”.
High Country Brook and Cutthroat trout await fly fishers willing to take the off road drive or beautiful hike. Avalanche Creek and the Crystal River above Marble offer excellent opportunities for the native species. Transportation can be anywhere from 15 minutes to 1 hour depending on location. |
